The story revolves around a middle-aged woman called Sandra, who lives in a small village with her husband and two teenage boys. The women grew up in poverty and both of them are aware that life is unfair. When the oldest son falls ill and is hospitalized, Sandra takes care of him and helps him get well while going through a bitter battle with cancer.

Sandra’s character witnesses the brutal murder of his own brother and as a result decides to go on a personal search for answers. After helping the man and his wife get through their grief, Sandra finds herself working in a hospital as a nurse’s aide. While trying to help others, Sandra slowly develops a strong sense of her own identity and this inspires her to start writing again, this time in English, in order to help other people like she did in her former profession.
