“Yapna kiya to dukh kuja. Dapata kiya hata to dukh kuja. Kiyab kiya khata hata to dukh kuja” (The three women went, they were given water and they sat in peace). (Yapna-bhakti-Dpana 10)

The Buddha teaches us that there is a different way in which people are created (pāja) and transformed (moha) for the purpose of human life and salvation. There are ways of human birth (pāja-sriya) and human perfection (moha-sriya) and ways of human annihilation (moha-nipiya), from which there is rebirth into the human world (moha-khārā). And there is also a way of human death (moha-bheda) and human perfection (bheda-sriya) for the purpose of salvation.
A.G. Vasubandhu, in the book “Ananda Sati”, says that the six types of spiritual activity are the four types of activity (parīkshaktyā), the four types of meditation and the four types of moral activity (pāna-bhakti). And he says that there are six reasons for taking a certain spiritual activity over others, namely, (1) that it is the highest. (It has a higher status than all the other activities.) (2) It gives happiness. (It enhances happiness.) (3) It improves one’s character. (It improves one’s character.) (4) It gives peace of heart. (It strengthens faith.) (5) It is conducive to the cause of emancipation. (It is conducive to the cause of emancipation.) (6) It makes the soul happy when the soul is happy and it makes one free from all evil. It leads to the fulfillment of the desires.
A.G. Vasubandhu also gives another kind of spiritual activity, namely, contemplation of the Buddha. He tells us that contemplation may be for the purpose of obtaining an ultimate deliverance
