Global Fashion Trends – Imitations or Inspirations?

The fashion industry is actually a multi-cultural arena with influences from all across the world. The United States of America, for example, is home to many popular fashion designers such as Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. Both these designer companies have made their way into the hearts and homes of millions of people across the country. Other designers from countries all over the world include Japanese, Korean and Chinese people in the fashion industry, with these countries influencing fashion trends in America and Europe alike.

The fashion industry in America has given birth to some of the most memorable fashion trends of all time including the “super shoe” worn by Michael Jackson and his band members, the “baggy pants” of the 80s and the oversized prom gown that Victoria Secret’s Catherine Zeta-Jones wore last year. Trends are also influenced by other elements such as climate and immigration. For example, the winter coat seen among both native and foreign populations is a product of the cold and snow of the season in the Far East. The same is true of shoes and clothing. Different cultures create different styles and the same can be said for fashion.

When it comes to global fashion trends, it seems that the Chinese influence has been the strongest. Some of the designs seen around the world are inspired by Chinese clothes and accessories. The Chinese are renowned for their use of fabric and patterns, their love of colours and their affinity with geometric shapes. It would seem that Chinese clothes and accessories have influenced fashion trends not only in Asia, but also in other parts of the world such as America and Europe.
