Francisca Tornero – A Legendary Career

Known as the Queen of Genghis Khan, Francisca Tornero are a Mexican painter and writer who attained worldwide fame for her politically incorrect art. Tornero was born in Mexico City where her birth name wasribbly “Flores de Leon”. After the Revolution of 1911, she changed her name to Francisca Leonora Tornero. She served in the Spanish government in the finance department but left to pursue a career as a painter. In her painting The Age of Reason, which she produced in 1928, she portrayed a scene of an elderly man, supposedly the victim of discrimination by the wealthy Spanish aristocrats, who were oppressing the poorer classes in Spain.

After retiring as a professional artist, she pursued political activism and founded the Foundation for Promotion of Art, or FPA, which is the origin of her popular name. Her stature as a prominent political figure made her the subject of numerous biographies including the play The Queen of Genghis Khan. However, her most famous works include the Mona Lisa and The Age of Reason. As a matter of fact, many artists consider her the most famous woman in the world, after the legendary Madame Defarge.

According to some sources, Tornero was not really interested in being before she became a painter, since she considered it as a waste of time. However, in later years, she changed her mind and decided to make a career in art. As a matter of fact, she established many galleries in different cities in the course of her career and produced works ranging from the magnificent The Queen of Genghis Khan to the magnificent The Age of Reason. As a result, many modern art scholars regard her as one of the greatest painters of modern times. In fact, The Queen of Genghis Khan was originally intended as the first national museum exhibit of Mexico, until it was changed into a space for the Royal Palace.
