Isabelle Menin is a famous writer and photographer who has won several awards for her work. Her most famous photograph, Hands of a Child, which was exhibited in the International Exhibition of Photography in Paris in 1963 is often described as the first modern image of children. The title refers not only to the physical features of the young subjects in the photograph but also to the mental process through which they create and decide their forms, shapes, colours and also their identities. The fact that the images are always taken with a child’s facial expression as a basis, shows how much the photographer concentrates on these faces. The strange complexity of her compositions also attest to her great interest in human aspects, especially the peculiarities of everyday life.

Her interest in natural history, especially in the flora of the country she was a part of, is reflected in her works which often cover landscapes. Among her works are The Belfrey by Isabelle Menin, The Loire by Isabelle Menin, The Boulevards by Isabelle Menin, The Saone by Isabelle Menin, The Haine by Isabelle Menin, The Villas by Isabelle Menin, The Housso by Isabelle Menin, The Villas Breganze by Isabelle Menin and The Rambla by Isabelle Menin. All these are part of her career as a photographer of flora and fauna. Some of her digital photography are entitled Fauna and Flora (1957) and Fauna and Herbs (1958).

These are just a few from the huge list of works which comprise her career as a photographer of flora and fauna. The beauty of these images, which are displayed on her website, is evident and obvious. It’s obvious that she is able to capture the essence of the location she is depicting exactly. Her style is always very clear and her technical know-how shines through in all her work, whether it’s her photography or her paintings.
