Fernanda Suarez is a Brazilian National who married soccer great Diego Maradona back in 1986. The pair played together for Internacional side Flamengo at the time and went on to lift the cup four times, making them Brazil’s first and only National Soccer Team winners. Her career then took off and she went on to play for various other big clubs throughout Europe as well as in South America, retiring in 2021 after spells at Mallorca, Palmeiras and Racing against Spain in the Copa America.
Fernanda grew up in Rio and attended the prestigious Leizur Silva High School alongside her two brothers. She began her professional career at the tender age of 17 in the reserves of the Brazil Football Association (FCB), appearing just once as a starter before being given a senior chance by the Brazilians. Despite representing her country at both the youth and senior level, Fernanda has managed to largely forget her national identity and has instead settled into a comfortable and exciting international career. It may have taken some years for her to get back to her best after a long spell out of the national team, but it seems that her determination and commitment to her profession have seen her make an incredible comeback and end her association with the BCA. This article attempts to give an insight into the life of a famous football player from the past who has now returned home and established a new name and love for the sport.
Fernanda is a petite striker who stands at 5′ 3 and is of Brazilian descent, the second most common Brazilian in the FC Barcelona squad behind superstar Neymar. Her family are proud of her achievements and have always supported her decision to pursue a football career, particularly her success in her native country. Brazilians of all ages have always recognised Fernanda as someone who has enjoyed a successful career, despite the fact that she has never won the crown of the best player in the world. As with many of the great players of past and present, she has also experienced the highs and lows of footballing life and comes to terms with these things by facing them head on and being able to adjust with each success and disappointment.
