Fernanda Savoia Becomes President of Guinea

Fernanda Savoia is currently the top competitor for the position of first President of the Republic of Guinea. She is currently the favorite in the race for the post of first Vice-President of the Republic of Guinea. The question many have posed is whether she should stand for election even though her personal qualifications are less than those of her opponents and that of the President of the Republic of Guinea, as her current age is above the minimum age requirement for a Vice-President of the Republic of Guinea. It is clear from the responses of many people to this question that some people do not want a woman as President of Guinea, so it is clear that age does affect her prospects of winning the election for a Vice Presidency of Guinea.

At this point in time there are reports that Fernanda Savoia, the candidate for Vice-President of Guinea, has accepted a national service which would allow her to renounce her citizenship and become a national of the country by way of serving the country on a full time basis. This would make her eligible to stand for election as President of Guinea in 2021. It appears that her main contenders for the position of first Vice-President include Dr. Rufus Ebers and Mr. Prospero Mende Oke with Mr. Teodoro Obinongo as a possible fourth choice. Most international media sources are reporting that Fernanda Savoia has accepted the offer to renounce her citizenship, but this has yet to be confirmed by the national government of Guinea or by Fernanda herself. There is an interesting twist on this issue; according to the Guinean press, she has made a trip to China to sign on the dotted line of a huge China-Guinea economic corridor, yet there is no confirmation of this from the national government of Guinea. Whether this was merely a PR stunt to reinforce her claim to be a Chinese President or not remains to be seen, but what is beyond doubt is that she has chosen to take on a new role as a Vice-President rather than stand for elective office at the end of this political season.
