Fernanda Keller has been called by many people the next Maradona. She is currently tied for thirteenth place overall, with twenty-two other competitors. Despite this, her main goal and quest for this year’s Olympic Games in Russia is not only to make it to the quarter finals but to break off the record for the highest total by a single woman. She is also determined to win a second straight Olympic title for the United States, something that only Laura Robson has accomplished.
Fernanda has been a triathlete since she was fifteen, competing in both indoor and outdoor events before turning professional. Since then, she has specialized in coaching younger athletes and targeting the faster racing classes. This new commitment to her profession and her personal goals has certainly caught the attention of national level coaches, as well as national and world level athletes.
Fernanda is committed to the triathlon itself, as well as her own personal objectives for reaching the top of the podium at the Olympics. She attributes her success to the support and encouragement of her coach, Lourena Shoren, and her love for the sport. Though at times a little fearful of challenging strangers, she enjoys meeting new people and making new friends along the way. Her tenacity in keeping up with the competition has certainly paid off, as now she is the proud owner of two gold medals and a host of new sponsors.
