Fernanda Chicurel, Age: 72, Profession: Nationality: Brazilian. Fernanda has lived in Brazil for her entire life and became a Brazilian citizen in the year 2021. She is a graduate of the University of Sperry-New York (TYU-NS) and holds a Master’s Degree in Social Service. As a social service professional, she has spent many years working with families, children, adolescents, grandparents, men, and women. Her career has also encompassed involvement with government programs concerning age discrimination and workplace violence in Brazil.
The Age Difference: Fernanda is seventy-three years old and was engaged to be married for the last time five years ago. When we proposed, I had told her that we were both very young and not yet considered mature enough to be engaged. However, she informed me that she was only twenty-one years old. Because we live so far apart, and she lives in a rural area, I was surprised when she said that she felt it would be a good idea for us to get married. We never planned on getting married until she mentioned the age difference and immediately knew that this was not a normal marriage proposal for me.
I was floored by the fact that she admitted to me that she was only twenty-one years old when we first proposed but seemed to accept it as the natural course of events, given the length of her marriage proposal. The height difference issue didn’t come up during the conversation, and I can respect someone’s personal choices whether they are young or not. We did, however, get to talk about some of her friends, which made our eventual engagement all the more special. I hope my experience helps those considering marriage proposals who might not have thought through certain important facts before accepting that a formal invitation.
