A blue hat is a professional hacker who does nothing but hacks things. The hacker wears a hat (usually) and talks in ways you would never expect. If you have ever seen someone in a business suit talking dirty to you while he or she hacks into your company’s system, you probably thought, “what the heck is he talking about?” Well, this person is in fact a blue-hat hacker. Hacking is a very serious business, often carried out by those who wish to change the world, and the unfortunate thing is that many people are willing to get involved in it without fully understanding what they are actually doing.
Blue Hat means “a professional or expert in computer systems”. A Black Hat hacker on the other hand, is someone who breaks laws or stole proprietary information and then goes into business selling that information, or finds someone else to do it and gets that person’s services for a fee. Sometimes, a hacker may decide to sell their services for money and become a corrupt vendor. It does happen, but usually, a true blue hat will not do this.
No matter how fashionable (or how strange) this costume might seem, the truth is that hackers and blue hats don’t really mix well. In fact, there is an old joke that says the only people dressed as hackers are lawyers. Lawyers can be dressed pretty respectable, but they are also professionals, which is just what a hacker is… and why blue-haters hate them. The funny thing is that it is actually quite humorous when these two groups do their thing. Some things are just so ridiculous that you laugh, but then you remember that it is all just a silly fashion statement.
