Fashion trends vary from country to country, with different clothing being made available to people in different countries. Fashion has always been mainly put on halt during the War. The clothes which were normally worn during this period were heavily influenced by utilitarian influences and military uniforms. In most countries young boys wore whatever they could get their hands on, even if they were usually quite uncomfortable.

After the war fashion began to pick up again, especially among the young men and women who were now able to afford proper clothing. As more items of clothing were manufactured per person, the production costs of apparel started to decrease, thus lowering the price of the items, thus increasing the popularity of these items. At that time a few people decided to start their own clothing line, which later became known as the first apparel manufacturer. This first apparel manufacturer was John Pilsworth, who started his clothing line in New York City in 1917.

With the First World War over, America experienced a major change in fashion when Hollywood started to make movies that portrayed the lifestyle of the Americans. Ranging from elegant and refined to carefree and informal, the movies conveyed the ideal of the American lifestyle to the world. This was mostly due to the fact that there was no longer any significant economic imbalance between the rich and poor regions of America. Instead, everyone was able to purchase the clothes they wanted. With the Second World War over and America still engaged in combat actions against foreign countries, the Third World War entered its second decade. Despite the death of millions of Americans and countless others being killed in combat, a fashion trend toward casual styles prevailed in America, which included jeans and casual shirts, as well as sportswear and leisurewear.
