Adriana Vecco is a thirty-one year-old contemporary artist from Palermo, Sicily who has spent the last fifteen years traveling the world and working with various groups of women. Her artwork has been shown in the United States, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Uruguay, and Canada. As an artist, she is concerned with the intersections of gender and nationality; Vecco’s work frequently represents aspects of race, age, ethnicity, class, or sexuality. Her recent paintings include “Papasan”, a depiction of two women; “Thorns”, a pregnant woman with her child in the background; and “La Costiera policewomania” a masculine representation of a constable. These are just a few of the many pieces of art that can be found on the Internet website of PartnerArt.

PartnerArt’s description of Adriana Vecco reads as follows: “Adriana Vecco is an artistic individual from Palermo, Sicily. She began studying art at the age of thirteen, attempting to combine the aesthetics of the Middle East with the visual language of the Renaissance. In recent years, she has displayed primarily in the context of contemporary art, using a variety of technical techniques and media. Her artwork often revolves around the theme of motherhood and/or domestic life.”

While there are not many pieces from this artist’s career that I would classify as “masterpieces,” her use of color, form, textures, and form to create some beautiful examples. The majority of her artwork is focused upon a very small segment of women: pre-mature infants and mothers, nieces and nephews, working women, the elderly, the incarcerated, teenagers, the exotic, and adolescents. Each of these women’s portraits is rich in color, imagery, detail, and emotion; the result is an album that will make you feel as though you have visited the studio of an expert artist.
