Did you ever think it would be you who would get nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series and win? Did you know that ages are not the criteria for eligibility? I am thrilled to be a nominee for Outstanding Comedy Series, but it is truly an honor to be nominated by the Television Academy. We have been following Ms. Emmy Chabbi (The Big Pimp) and her amazing arc on our web hit series, Anger Management. This is an amazing achievement for anyone who puts in the time to build a successful website or blog, but more importantly, for anyone who consistently brings entertainment to millions of viewers through her vignettes and her sharp writing skills.
The award is truly a culmination of all the hard work and passion that Emmy has dedicated herself to throughout her illustrious career. When deciding upon a career, it’s important to consider your personal interests, as well as what interests you will be bringing to your new shows. Chances are, if you love your job, you will find a great partner in television, who shares your vision and enthusiasm for your craft. If you’re just getting started, it is always wise to put your personal interest first, while searching for shows that may bring in potential clients. Choosing the correct partner is vitally important for success in this industry.
As an ethnic minority woman, you need to understand the industry’s biases and prejudices when looking for a partner in television, so you can develop your business successfully. Because of the nature of this industry, many producers and directors tend to hire exclusively from their own ethnicities and nationalities. This perpetuates the stereotypes in Hollywood, creating a further barrier for women of color, especially those of Asian descent, who cannot seem to make it in this predominately white environment. Show producers and directors need to understand that ethnicity and nationality do not matter when it comes to providing quality programming for television viewers. Audiences of all races and ethnicities love comedy, and watching shows about people with different ethnicities and nationalities is a way for them to escape the realities of daily life and enjoy a laugh.
