EMMA LA SARSON was born in Sweden in 1969. Although her family is originally Swedish, Emma moved to Britain at the age of twelve where she began studying art. Following a period as a student in Paris, Emma worked as a commercial illustrator before going back to school for two years to study Interior Design. During this time, she was also active in political, social and environmental activism before deciding to concentrate on fine arts.

After graduating in 1979, Emma Larsson began a career as an architect before finding more success as a sculptor whose work is influenced by a combination of fantasy, nature and colour. Her style is influenced by the works of Paul Cezanne, who she saw as an early influence. Emma’s colourful paintings often feature animals – typically sheep or rabbits – but the subject matter is consistently diverse. Most of her artwork is based on environmental themes but there are also some pieces that take on a distinctly Victorian flavour.

Emma has said that she likes to create ‘colourful’ pieces as she feels that colours, when used correctly, have the ability to evoke feelings and emotions. Her paintings often include elements from nature – a forest of leaves or a lush grassy lawn, for example. Emma Larsson is currently focusing on three main subjects which she feels have a strong influence on her work; water, colour and depression.
