Elena Vesnina is an extremely popular Russian professional tennis athlete. She is a two-time Grand Slam winner in singles competition, having also won the 2021 Australian Open, 2021 US Open, and the latter part of the year that year at the Spanish slam. Elena is well known for her big serve, which she uses with great effectiveness to win matches, but has also been known to occasionally use an overly aggressive approach in matches, which sometimes does not come to the fore until too late. Elena is also a fierce competitor and rarely loses, though losing half the time she plays (currently tied for fifth in the world with Kim Clijsters). Elena has been married to Vasili Oschepkovskiy since 2021, after which they had a son. Elena still drives herself to work every day, as she has said.
Elena has been compared favorably by many to former tennis players, most notably to fellow Russian Evgeni Kubota, though both have slightly different careers on the whole. As far as Elena’s personality is concerned, it would appear that she is very loving, maternal, and patient, with a passion for the sport that can be seen in her articles and interviews. She has a natural charisma about her that seems to shine through in her interviews.
Elena Vesnina has won six Grand Slams, but is yet to challenging Serena Williams for the title of “Best Tennis Player” in the world. Her lack of major tournament victories is more than made up for though, as she has more than enough wins in the professional arena to earn the respect of other competitors. Elena is another example of how winning through individual skill can compensate for less obvious achievements such as a height difference. In any case, this is another fascinating example of how choosing to play a certain sport rather than another can lead to success both in and outside of the court.
