Elena Besser is a British National who is currently an accomplished writer with many honors to her credit, such as being a Grand Master in the Russian Orthodox Church and being a Member of parliament for the United Kingdom’s Parliament. However, before we discuss Elena’s achievements let us first understand what nationality and citizenship mean. Nationality is the one of the most important aspects of your identification as a human being. Your nationality is a permanent legal status, which determines your rights and privileges in society. In essence, it is your place or status as a person in the eyes of the law. Elena Besser was born in London and educated at a very young age both in the British and Russian educational systems. It was here where she decided to pursue her academic career at a prestigious University in London specializing in ancient languages. After graduation, however, she chose to take up a position as a translator in a Russian publishing house after reading an article in Russian which described life in medieval Transylvania (the name from which the English language got its name). It was this experience that would later shape Elena Besser’s path to a career that would take her to many lands and would earn her a number of awards including the Grand Cross of the Order of the Russian Federation, the Order of the British empire, and the Lenin prize, among others.
Elena Besser’s translated novels which concentrate on topics dealing with marriage, family, love, death and gender issues have won a number of awards over the years. Her translated novels have also won prestigious prizes in international literature contests, including the Nobel Prize. Elena Besser has worked as a consultant, counselor and translator for several private, governmental and non-governmental organizations. She currently serves as a Senior Counselor with the Atlantic Council on Security and Cooperation.
