The term ‘Dana Ishaqat’ is used for describing an individual who is of Indian origin, belongs to the Bollywood sub caste and has a Pakistani nationality. This article will highlight on the issues surrounding the question of nationality. If you were born in Pakistan and have dual nationality, it might seem that you are not really a Pakistani. This could be true if you do not have any connection to Balochistan. However, this is not the case with the existence of a national identity in India.
The problem is very complicated, as the government does not recognize your nationality even if you hold Indian citizenship or are entitled to the benefits of federal programs and welfare funds under the Indian Constitution. So, the question of nationality is resolved but there remains the issue of age. If you belong to Bollywood, the chances of being of Bollywood age are more. However, if you are of a nationality other than Bollywood, chances are you may have lived in India for quite some time but not Indian.
For instance, a Pakistani woman who married an Indian man and later moved to UK may be of Indian nationality despite living here as a British citizen. In such cases, the age of the partner becomes a crucial issue. While a British citizen can get married anytime he/she wishes, a person who has lived in India as a Pakistani can’t get married here without the government’s permission. In such cases, the best option available to the British national is to go back to Pakistan and live there as an Indian citizen.
