Recently, the world has been captivated by an interesting case of a fitness model from Russia called Alena Omargalieva, who is under controversy in her country. Ms Omargalieva is under suspicion for cheating on her boyfriend with a male associate, as he is half her age and therefore she cannot be regarded as ‘homemaker number’ number one. However, the public prosecutor, Marina Zavetsya, is determined to press charges regardless of the fact that Omargalieva’s relationship with her boyfriend was not founded upon love or even sex. She did not just steal the man’s husband’s identity to gain a celebrity status, but rather used that pseudo-identity to keep him from the public eye for several months, till he finally figured out that his wife was lying to him. This case is interesting from many different angles, because it shows the perils that can be involved in height or age difference sex-determination.
We know that people born under both the genders are generally considered to be of legal age in their respective countries of birth. The problem arises when the person whose gender they are cannot legally wed because they have a legal age of consent which is different than their partner’s. In some cases like Alena Omargalieva’s, she has been trying to get a Russian divorce and it is obvious that she is using her age to stay within the legal parameters of marriage. It is a sad fact that many women will cheat on their partners just so they can stay within the laws of their country, even if they are married to another person. This could easily lead to problems in international relationships and marriages, where marital bonds are supposed to be based on love and respect for each other regardless of the differences in nationalities.
However, it seems more likely that Alena Omargalieva’s case is something more than the above-mentioned scenario. The most likely scenario is that she is engaged in a profession which involves height determination, which, if correct, might indicate a serious case of height fraud. Height is measured in various methods across many different countries. There are some measurements used by the Turkish government as well as the American Medical Association. Height is measured from the neck up and there are several reasons why it might be difficult to determine the actual height of someone who is very tall. This could be because the neck might be swollen or because the bones might be in unusual positions.
