Dana Breeman, a tall and talented Nationality singer-actor is now trying to get out of her stardom with less songs released each week, fewer commercials aired on TV and less movies released by studios. The reasons for her fame are many, but that’s not enough for her label, Island/EMI, to make a dent in the massive money industry. Her Nationality music career has been a flop from day one. This may seem ironic given the critical acclaim she’s received, but Breeman’s lack of commercial appeal is what doomed her Nationality career. But it is perhaps this lack of attention, which prevents her from getting out of her shell and doing more music.
The question on everybody’s mind: Where does a tall athlete with an average height (as well as an accent and an American accent) fit into? Dana’s height is actually listed at 6′ 5″ and there’s no way that her height would fit in a super fit Hollywood romantic comedy like Wayne’s World. She’s too tall. How does she fit into a scene in a Nationality film which is centered on a character with average height, a lack of height and little height to boot? And in a world where being tall and handsome is a highly coveted status, where Hollywood insiders and studio executives work to cast actors and actresses accordingly the chances of being cast as a tall and lean female are slim.
A career as a Nationality singer-actor seems improbable for a woman with a height problem, but given the kind of career she’s having, it might just be the career for her. Her acting prowess, combined with her lacking physical attributes, gives her the opportunity to explore her acting abilities to the fullest and fulfill her dreams of becoming a Nationality star. It also makes a pretty face look very real, if you know how to wear makeup and hair right. As long as her agent keeps her focused on that goal, Brecker should have no trouble finding her niche in this largely male-dominated business.
