Cynthia Covert is an accomplished author and public speaker who have earned the National Endowment for the Arts Distinguished Visiting Artist distinction. Her book, “Songs From the New Black,” showcases her talents as a composer of colorful, original music. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Covert has shown her versatility as a singer/songwriter, composer and performer, having performed both in front of and behind the microphone. As an artist, she has released numerous records both as a member of The Yardbirds and as a solo artist.

While pursuing a professional career as an artist, she has also released several non-soundtrack singles, most notably the duet of En Vogue’s Carla Hall and her husband, guitarist Carl Perkins.
