Color blocking is considered the exploration of pairing opposites on the color spectrum and then pairing them together in such a way to create unique and interesting color combinations. It’s widely regarded as a recent trend, which originated in the art of Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian’s artwork. Since then, this trend has gone through many color blocking variations, most notably in contemporary fashion.

In color blocking, an individual or a group of people play with the hues of a color wheel while coming up with a color combination. Usually, this is done by developing color schemes that contrast slightly by using lighter and darker shades to emphasize certain characteristics. A classic example is red and orange, which is a color combination developed by using red and orange together. Another color blocking combination is yellow and light blue, which features light shades of blue which is used to contrast the darker shade of yellow.

Fashion designers have embraced the color blocking trend and have even gone as far as to pair popular colors in the same outfit. For instance, they have paired turquoise and diamond white, which creates a very bold and stunning combination. These bold colors have become very popular these days especially for those who want to stand out in a crowd. Wearing a pair of shoes with a color blocking background has become quite trendy.
