Classic 80s Fashion Trends

Iconic 80s fashion is fondly remembers by many as the decade that introduced many unusual fashion trends, including numerous neon accessories and shrill hair fashions. However, many people are unaware of the fact that the edgier decade also heralded many fashion designs which were far more edgy than anything that had come before. This article uncovers this forgotten era of fashion which was ahead of its time and paved the way for many different designs, which are still popular today. Read on to learn about some of these different and sometimes forgotten designs.

Many would probably remember the iconic 80s fashion trends of the decade which saw a number of iconic styles make an appearance. One of the most notable trends which emerged was the edgier pencil skirt which, incidentally also came back into fashion in the eighties. The pencil skirt was a staple of denim, particularly in the wider shoulders where it became known as the “checkered skirt”, but was also worn in a variety of colours. Another edgier style which emerged during this decade was the boho chic look which tended to include large prints, vibrant and asymmetrical patterns and eye-catching floral prints which were coloured or displayed in bright oranges, reds and blues.

The iconic 80s fashion trends of the eighties saw an abundance of designs in the form of leather coats and power suits which were worn with trousers made from leather. Leather clothing was seen as being cooler than the previous decade’s range of fabrics and meant that people could be more comfortable and confident in their design, even if they were wearing leather. Although the popularity of leather coats diminished slightly with the rise of faux leather and other man-made materials, the iconic 80s fashion trends of the eighties saw a resurgence of interest in leather clothing. The new metallic and neon colours which were introduced saw more people embrace the trend as it became fashionable to wear clothes made from the same materials.
