Clare Owen, the famous British actress and fashion designer is famous for her wide-ranging roles in films and television. She has been applauded for her various accolades including the Order of the British empire OBE, an honorary doctorate, a knighthood, and the Commonwealth Games’ gold medal. She has also been nominated for an Oscar for her contribution to the film industry, The Piano. However, her notable award does not mean that she lacks any love for her country. She was born in County Durham, in the south of England. Her official obituary in the Daily Record stated that her passion was for the environment and she would have loved had she kept her own name.
Clare Owen’s official website states that she was born in receipt of the Consented Order of the British empire dated 3rd February 1924. She is described as “a tall, slim, aristocratic lady, the wife of Graham Owen, of Bray, North Yorkshire who was the younger sister of the late John Douglas Simcock, afterwards Lord Northumberland”. Her birth certificate indicates that she was born in Yorkshire but it is not certain whether she lived in that county or not. Her father died when she was very young and she was brought up in Cheshire. She graduated from Epsom College, University of London where she joined the debating society, the Institute of Politics, University of East Anglia before graduating in actives in 1930. After that she worked as a cabinetmaker in the War Office before going to acting, which is where she began to gain some recognition.
Clare’s official biographer, Clare Conran, described her as “a forceful and intelligent lady, who loved nature and the beauties of life”. This is in line with her love of gardening, which came to the fore in her role as Lady Hope in the movie, Snow White. Claire Owen was known to be passionate about her nationalities, being passionate about her native Yorkshire and having an interest in art and culture. It was clear from the way in which she chose her partner that she held an interest in the arts and it is possible that this was also the basis for her decision to be a paralegal in the legal profession.
