In a recent interview with Indian newspaper ‘Indian First Class’ (ISL), Caroline Suri, the former Miss India had spoken about her Nationality and Age. She had mentioned that when her friend Mani Ratnam had passed away, she had approached him to donate her body to science, mentioning her Nationality as Indian. Though she was born in Ireland, according to the British Raj, she is a British citizen by natural birth. She had told the newspaper, “I am an Irish woman and I like being called an Indian by everyone… but not by my husband. I love being called by all names: wife, sister, mother, friend.”

In the same article, she had also disclosed that in her view, being called Indian was nothing wrong. She had once been asked by a European to marry him, to get into his profession. She had agreed to this and her husband was a well-known doctor. She had gone to Pakistan to study medicine, but her husband had got her a job in Britain and so she returned to Pakistan. She has completed a degree from King’s College, London and was already working as a consultant for Wellcome Trust in curing genetic disorders.

She has been married at least three times: to David Lyon, to Glenys Dickson and to Robert Holdsworth. She has been happily married to her partner for almost 20 years, yet she feels that her nationality does not play any role in her marriage. She said: “Nationality or race doesn’t have anything to do with marriage. Our marriage is a love story. Whoever you are, whatever race you are, wherever you come from, we all get married for the same reason – to spend a happy life.”
