California State University Fashion Show
The annual California State University fashion show is one of the most prestigious and popular events held each spring in the great state of California. Overlooked by the Pacific Ocean and packed with tourists from around the world, this show features some of the best and brightest designers in the field. It is host to a number of design contests, where students display their work before the crowd. The students who win a prize are also announced as the “Best of Show”.
The student and faculty committee who organize and run the event aim at making the event a memorable one for both the students and the artisans. The committee handpicks the winner of each category at the fashion show, but are usually in charge of selecting the entire talent that shows up at the event. Students and faculty members of the show put forward their ideas and creativity on how best to celebrate and present the works of the various designers. In spite of the large number of participants, the show is generally quite quiet – a contrast to, for instance, the New York Fashion Week, which boasts of thousands of attendees. The audiences at the fashion show are far more select and diverse than the audiences at fashion week or other similar events.
Fashion designers and artisans from all over the world attend this fashion show to compete for awards and the cash prize that are handed out. The show, although it caters to men, women and children, has a largely female audience. This is perhaps because women generally relate fashion to jewelry and clothing. The student and faculty at California State University strive to make the fashion show an inclusive and educational experience for everyone. The show is also an opportunity for student and faculty members to meet and greet people who may have a connection with the arts and visual arts.
