Lisa Yang has been very popular in the United States ever since she was cast as Chun Li, a martial arts expert who engages in a long and intense battle with his rival. The fighting match takes place in the sewers of NYC and is one of the most well known scenes from the Kung Fu movie trilogy. In the beginning it can be seen clearly that Yang is very talented, handling the knives and other weaponry expertly. It is after this battle that the audiences see that Yang’s partner is actually her sister Tong Po, who is known for being a very cold and ruthless sister.
However, it is apparent from the start that the reason why Lisa Yang is fighting a criminal is to get her beloved husband back. While doing so, she accidentally bumps into an assassin who aims to kill their newlywed couple. As a result, Tong Po tries to shoot her, but Lisa Yang manages to block the shot. From this point on, the movie follows the two lovers as they bond and struggle against enemies, one of whom is much more skilled than the other. As the movie progresses, we learn more about the reasons why the two women decided to marry each other, and why their nationalities have nothing to do with it.
One thing that is consistent throughout the movie is the theme that the two are very much friends despite their different nationalities. While fighting off enemies, they both remind themselves of their love for each other. On the subject of their nationalities, it is only later in the movie that we find out that Tong Po is Chinese, while Lisa Yang is British. Although the movie started out as a story about a Chinese girl who loved a white man, as it went on it became clear that the theme of love and betrayal ran throughout the whole movie.
