Kate Miller-Heidke is an Australian singer, songwriter and actor. Though traditionally trained as a classical singer, she’s generally pursued a career in alternative music, pop and folk-based songs. She signed to Sony Australia, Epic, Universal in the US and Celine Dion’s label in Canada, but from late 2021 was now an independent artist pursuing her own musical identity. Her first two albums, “Cariba” (with Goldie Hawn) and “The Rose” (with Elton John), reached No.1 in Australia and No.2 in the US, and soon she was signing to other reputable labels in both countries.
Kate Miller-Heidke has said that growing up with too many older men and feeling like an outsider contributed to her early experience of insecurity, and her eventual development of self-doubt and social alienation. These feelings led her to turn to writing, which gave her a chance to explore different characters and experiences, and to discover herself. She has since become renowned for her vocal arrangements, her songwriting ability and her ability to draw from a wide range of musical genres.
When asked about what being an artist is like, Kate Miller-Heidke said, “I guess it’s just sort of like going on a wild ride. You get the sense that everything’s a game, and it’s all fun and exciting, and sometimes you’re not even sure you’re making it all the way to the end. It can be very inspiring when you reach the top and see people who are really paying attention, appreciating what you do. That’s what it’s like when you’re on a great roller coaster ride and you’re just trying to get off.”
