A fashion trend consultant is someone who analyzes the current fashion trends and makes recommendations for clients. In essence, they are fashion critics who are paid to let others know what’s in and what’s out. The days of the fashion guru are long gone, as these days the whole world of fashion has a lot more to do than simply deciding what clothes people should or shouldn’t wear. As such, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people to decide on what they want to wear simply by looking at what everyone else is wearing. To become a fashion trend analyst, you have to start with a bachelor’s degree, which typically takes 2 years to complete. After you graduate you will need to get a few jobs before you get to earn your degree and become certified. Some of the jobs that a fashion consultant can work with our advertising agencies, fashion shows, catalogs, clothing manufacturing companies, retailers, and even television networks. Most people working in this field end up working for a smaller company first, before eventually transitioning into bigger ones. It can be hard work at the beginning but once you master the techniques of spotting trends and spotting fashions that will work for your clients, you’ll have no problem finding great jobs.

There are many different career options available once you finish college. You can start a consulting firm where you study different businesses and provide a neutral point of view that will help them determine what kind of clothes to offer, how they should market those clothes, and what kind of target they should aim for. You can also work for yourself and start your own boutique with a design consultancy. You can work in the fashion industry as a marketing or sales associate, a buyer, or even a store manager.
