‘Aurora Ponce and Her World’ Film Review

Aurora Ponce was cast as the lead character in the musical, “Aurora Ponce and Her World.” The character was described as the sultry, sexy siren of Rodeo Drive and that description fits the role to a tee. In this film she played with so much panache and enthusiasm that her presence was like a breath of fresh air to those characters that felt worn down by the more serious, less inspired characters portrayed in the earlier movies by Carol Burnett and Robert DeNiro. They all seemed to be trapped under the shadow of Ashlee Simpson’s Victoria. And they were not doing anything to break free from the mold that kept them there.

The good thing about this version of Aurora Ponce is that her sultry confidence brought out the best qualities of her personality. It also enabled her to overcome her shyness and in fact radiated her beauty to the fullest. This character once again proved that age does not define a woman but rather her true calling and talents. In this film she showed off her energy and enthusiasm in ways that only her nature as a dancer could do. She played the part of a flamboyant young woman who yet exuded the gentlest persona and yet had the brains to back up the sassiness in her actions.

Throughout the movie it became very apparent that Ashlee was the one who could not wait to spend every night with Aurora and that the two were inseparable. It is only when one of them falls ill that we realize that we are in for another romance/adventure with this dynamic duo. The friendship between Ashlee and Aurora Ponce was definitely one of the best aspects of the film. This friendship was a constant reminder of how strong the bonds of love can be between a mother and daughter, and it showed how much they cared for each other despite the difficulties they faced together. “Aurora Ponce and Her World” were one of the best films of 2021 directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Anne Hathaway and Dane Dehaussal.
