Artur Rasheed is a Canadian writer and blogger who has written for Harper’s and the National Post. He is one of the contributors to the Daily Kos. He had an interesting (and funny) exchange with John Hider on his blog.

I am currently a visiting professor at the Centre for Social Cohesion, Montreal, Canada.

First, thanks for your thoughtful email. While I do not agree with that stance, the letter is still very insightful.

I don’t know for sure that you are going to “kill” John. Perhaps he needs a little more time to “learn his lesson” in this life.

For the record, I am an atheist but I did consider the argument that God is the only thing that really exists in a world where science can’t define it.

I do have a soft spot for those who love me, and I hope I am not alienating others by not understanding some of your arguments.

For instance, your assertion that “no one is perfect”. The term “perfect” is not in reality defined (or even is even used in the context) by a single instance of perfection.

Perhaps the most interesting and beautiful thing about the concept of “perfection” is its connection to what you say is the most terrifying thing about the idea of God.

I’d call it “Perfect Hate”, if it was so easy to be.

No.

I can think of several examples of Perfect Hate and yet I continue to embrace the concept. The list in the previous paragraph would definitely be one such example.

My point is not that I am certain about God; nor are I going to be.

My point is that I’m interested in people and how they make choices: good or bad. People are always making choices. How can we claim we know something is or isn’t Good or Bad?

Does God exist and is it always Good?

I think we can say that both “Yes” and “No” are Yes answers to this question.

Now, the next thing to consider is some of your further arguments about the concept of God – how it would affect the relationship of humans and other animals and animals.

You state that “…humans are made in God’s image and so are more equal than other species of animals”.

“This implies that we are all made equal and have access to the same moral
