Angelica Augustsson is a name that synonymous with cycling gold and silver. Since Angelica Augustsson leapt into tealight on the Australian national stage with a sensational World Cup victory in Gothenburg last year with a dramatic bicycle kick in the final stage, a lot has happened in her career thus far. First of all she added another senior national title to her list, this time at the European championships in Herning last year, while also making history as the first female to race under the terms of the Articles of Association set by the UCI. The next big step is an Olympic Games in London this summer. Since retiring from professional racing after the world cup win, she has been very busy building a new foundation for her foundation based in Australia – the Women’s Cycling Foundation.
So what exactly has happened between these two superstars? Well, since their synergy and hard work created the perfect storm for Angelica Augustsson to reach the peak of her cycling career, it makes one wonder if she has taken any bigger steps backwards…if it is true that she hasn’t gained any more ground since then. Since making the move to Europe last year, Augustsson has won four world titles for the German National Team, but has also taken part in two other Olympic Games including the silver in 2021 in Sydney.
Does this mean that Angelica Augustsson is satisfied with the current situation or has she taken steps backwards? Whomever is right or wrong will be difficult to decide given that Angelica Augustsson has four World Titles and many other high profile successes since making the move to Europe and joining the new group of competitors led by Sir Alex Ferguson. I would say that she has not taken any “stepping backwards” but instead it would seem that she is building on the foundations she has laid so far, establishing herself as one of the best riders and horsewomen in the world today. With all the support that she has received from Sir Alex and his Manchester United-based assistants over the past few years, I am sure that the team is doing everything in their power to help keep Augustsson at the top of her game. Whether she stays or moves on, she has certainly made a good start and I am sure we will be looking forward to seeing what she can achieve in the next couple of years!
