The Iowa City school district is investigating what caused one female student to faint while walking around campus during a school day on Tuesday.Authorities say the student was walking in the street on State Street at about 10 a.m. when she felt ill.

โ€œAfter several minutes she developed abdominal pains and then became unwell again,โ€ the Des Moines Register reported. She was transported to a hospital for medical attention.

A school spokeswoman told the Register that her school has notified the school board and police were en route to the scene.

There is a medical bulletin about the incident on public schools statewide website.

The Register interviewed the student and the mother of the 14-year-old girl who told the paper her daughter told her: โ€œIโ€™m fine. I just felt kind of sick.โ€
