An Introduction to Isabelle Warburton

Isabelle Warburton is one of the most famous dressmakers and stylists from France. She is well known for her intricate hand-knotted dresses which grace many people’s wardrobes around the world. This talented woman started her career at an early age of 18 working as a clerk in a clothing store before she was called by her good friend, Camille Saint-Sophie, to attend a fashion school in Tours where she graduated inille. She went on to work with her friend Anne Bissell who introduced her to fashion designers Camille Saint-Sophie and Paul Gauguin and later on to Sir Hugo Bracken who helped her launch her own line of clothes entitled ‘Au Dama’.

From there she moved into her own design studio and designed dresses for many celebrities. Her most famous dresses include the dress worn by Princess Diana, which was designed by her then assistant, Christopher Kane; this particular dress has gone on to be worn on numerous occasions. She also designed the blue and white dress worn by Bette Midler for a shoot for her album, ‘Irene’. The beautiful colors and delicate lace made this dress one of the most stylish of many from her wardrobe. Isabelle Warburton also designed the black and white dress worn by Yusef Islam for the movie ‘Lion’.

In recent years she has been working with the famous designer John Galliano, who has designed many different styles of clothes. Galliano’s designs are often described as ‘elegant casual elegance’ and are suitable for either evening or daytime wear. In fact, John Galliano has designed clothing for such high profile figures as the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, Kate Winslet and Elle Macpherson. Isabelle Warburton is currently working on a book project based on the life of writer Gertrude Stein. A biographical book entitled, ‘The Artist’ is also in the works and has already attracted many readers.
