All About Christmas Sock Yarn

My favourite Christmas gift this year has to be the WYSIWYG guide to knitting a Christmas sock. A quick search on Google returns over twenty-four thousand results, which is quite an impressive number. However, if you want to know how to knit a Christmas stocking then this might not be the right place to start. To begin with you need to understand the different types of socks available.

To begin with you have your standard socks, these are the plainest white and black socks you could ever wish for. Each 100g ball (which is about two US gallons) costs about 7.50 and can easily be found at your local yarn shop. Alternatively if you don’t want to use standard needles then you will need to purchase an acrylic yarn such as baby sock or worsted sock for your Christmas stocking. Buying acrylic is a little trickier than standard acrylic yarn as it tends to be more expensive and harder to find. If you cannot find acrylic then knitters everywhere use a type of baby sock which is knit with wool and is therefore slightly cheaper than acrylic.

After you have your needles and your Christmas stockings you need to choose your Christmas yarn. Again just like with knitting a Christmas sweater, the more unique the better, but again it comes down to personal preference. Some people like their Christmas colors to match their favorite Christmas ornament, in which case they might want to buy an insert. You can also buy beautiful glass Christmas ornaments that will sit nicely on your stockings. My personal choice is a pair of simple red boots, these look absolutely gorgeous next to my pair of red Christmas gloves!
