Alice Girard was born in France and is of French nationality. Alice was a student of philosophy at Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and graduated in politics in La Sorbonne in France. She worked as a journalist for the French newspaper L’Union de usage and in the magazine Landaire. After becoming a freelance writer, Alice Girard published her first novel “Je ne sais quoi” (I Don’t Sleep). This book won the Prix Goncourt (Highest Award) of the Palmesbury Prize in UK.

Alice Girard has written and illustrated her own children’s books in collaboration with her mother, Mrs. Huguet. She has also written and illustrations for numerous other children’s media, such as Disney, Nickelodeon, Viacom, CBC, and several French comic magazines. It is obvious that Alice Girard has a strong attachment to the country life. But this does not mean that she shirks away from work, as she has clearly stated in her own words that her profession requires no compromise on either side: “My profession requires that I neither create nor consume, whatever may be the stage of life my characters are on”.

Alice Girard’s most recent book is entitled “Nomads: A Secular Pilgrimage”, which is an account of the nomadic lifestyle of the Girards and other travellers in Transylvania. This is an intriguing, if somewhat strange book which describes the daily routine of a family in a modern country – travelling from one end of the country to the other. The book ended with a critique of Transylvania as an ideal tourist destination and a glimpse of the future of the Transylvanian people and their culture.
