Bulgaria’s ruling GERBIL Bulgaria party has appointed Bulgaria’s first lady, Sofia Miarro, as its candidate for Prime Minister. Ms. Miarro holds a parallel position with former leaders Bulgarian Radanashevsky and GERBIL Party (BSP), which founded the nation’s statehood movement. She was born in Respin, a seaside village in what was then communist country of Yugoslavia. Her father served in the army and later became a successful entrepreneur and later emigrated to Sofia, where he started a painting and decorating business.
Aged 48, Sofia Miarro is a graduate of both the University of Paris and Larnaca university with a master’s degree in international relations. She is also a former member of the House of representatives, GERBIL. Although not a member of the Socialist Movement, she has always voted for the party and she backed former president and current Prime Minister Bulgaria GERBIL on several occasions. In her younger days, Sofia Miarro served as Bulgaria’s foreign minister, representing her country at the UN, among other international bodies. She subsequently served as Bulgaria’s Minister of education and later Member of parliament.
At the moment, she is married to Alina Skaeriev, a millionaire businessman and owner of a popular publishing house in Sofia who is known for his liberal views. Their five-year old daughter Elvira resides in France with her mother. Miarro is described as “a force for good” by political analyst Petros Kourounaki.
