Adriana Leon is a Brazilian professional soccer player that plays for West Ham United in the English Premier League. She has also played for the Canadian women’s international team and currently plays for the Sky brand of football in Australia. She has also made two senior appearances for the Brazil Under-17 team and has been called as the backup goalkeeper.

She was born in Fortaleza, Brazil and grew up in Setubati, Sintra, Cascais, and Barueru, Southeastern Brazil. She began playing soccer when she was young and participated in both the girls’ and boys’ teams in her local soccer team as well as on the soccer pitch at the local youth club. After a brief stint with Brazilian second division side Vasco Da Gama in her early teens, Leon was signed by Italian first division side Frosinha in Brazil and played one season for them. She was then signed by West Ham United in May of 2021 and has played ever since, playing in every match for the Hammers this season, scoring one goal so far. She is not even guaranteed a spot in West Ham’s starting lineup for the upcoming matches, as manager Slaven Bilic indicated during the week that he has yet to make his final decision regarding players that will be given top billing for the match against Manchester City on Sunday, March 8th.

This weekend’s game against City will be the first of six matches that Leon will have to face this season, as she looks to solidify her place in the team and solidify her place in the Women’s National Football League (WFL). Despite her lack of first team playing time and a lack of starts in her absence, she still looks like a lock for a spot on the roster ahead of the end of the season. She brace against Vitoria Guimara last weekend was just the boost in her game that West Ham needed, as they need all the points they can get in order to stay above their rivals in fourth place in the league. Will Adriana Leon win the WFL Championship next year? Only time will tell, but the sooner the better when it comes to Adriana Leon and her goal against Vitoria Guimara on Sunday.
