Maya Ren is a famous Chinese actress and martial artist. She is best known for her roles in the action-adventure genre, particularly the Japanese mystery series KYMA: The Rogue. She has appeared in many Hollywood films, most notably the Kung Mangai franchise which starred Jackie Chan. She has also had some small roles in TV shows such as Dragonheart, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and was in one episode of the popular Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Deep Space 9”.
Maya is originally from China where she would have been a very young child, but she was brought up in Hong Kong. She began training at a very young age, going to an elite karate academy in Hong Kong, and receiving a black belt in Karate at the age of 16. It was whilst she was studying there that she came to know and meet her future partner, Bruce Lee. They worked side by side as student and tutor, developing a close friendship that lasted until they parted ways in the late 1970s.
It is interesting to note in this article that Maya Ren studied martial arts with a dedication and passion for her art that were, to a certain extent, very similar to that of Jackie Chan’s. Though she was brought up studying other martial arts, it seems that in her eyes, martial arts were her way of life and she could not see a day gone by without at least attempting it. Her final years were spent in an attempt to become a movie star in the United States. She has appeared in a number of well-known films, such as Jungle Fever, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Heat, Tokyo Drift, etc. She has also achieved some notable acting awards, including an Oscar nomination for her contribution to the film, Rush, which she also co-starred in.
