Abigail Harrison
Abigail Harrison is an American online personality, author, speaker, science educator and champion for green living. She is the founder and director of The Mars Generation, which is a non-profit, educational charity organization that promotes space exploration through multimedia. As an educator, Abigail has presented workshops and seminars on topics such as sustainable architecture, green building materials, space policy, and space sciences. In fact, her writings on such topics have been featured in numerous publications by such entities as the New York Times, Elsewhere magazine, and MIT Technology Review.
Abigail was born and raised in Miami, Florida. At the age of 14, Abigail began to take an interest in astronomy and became interested in space exploration and working with NASA. After high school, she attended the University of Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in science. Prior to becoming a professional space exploration and propulsion engineer, Abigail worked as a counselor at the Space Learning Institute in Cape Canaveral, Florida, for two years.
In 2021, Abigail Harrison was selected as one of twenty new members of the first team to be launched into space aboard the space shuttle Endeavour. During this time, Abigail will live and work in orbit. When the mission is completed, she will return to Earth to begin a life-long career in aerospace medicine. To date, she is the only American woman ever selected as a member of the Mars expedition. She is one of only six women ever chosen by NASA to serve as an astronaut on board a space shuttle mission. Abigail’s role as an astronaut will be held by her fellow American, Katey Stone.
