Sock drives for the homeless are a great way to give people more access to clothes. The average person who is homeless has less than two pairs of clean socks to use. Most people who are homeless also have at least one pair of dirty socks. When their socks get soiled, they are at high risk for developing infections and frostbite. However, many homeless individuals do not have access to new socks or laundry facilities.
Fortunately, there is a solution. A variety of businesses have decided to create Give Aid Fundraisers that offers free socks and other clothing items to the public. These businesses have realized the misery that people who live on the streets have to go through to survive each day. Many people who live on the streets lack access to running water and electricity, which make it impossible for them to bathe or even to wear shoes. In addition, many people who live on the streets do not have clean clothes that they can wash and wear.
Each time a person wears a new set of socks, the money from the Give Aid Fundraising campaign goes towards feeding the homeless. Anyone over the age of eighteen who lives in a public facility such as a shelter, soup kitchen, or nursing home is eligible to donate socks. Businesses that participate in the Give Aid Fundraising program do not need to make a profit in order to donate. Any amount donated is valuable and will benefit the homeless population.
