Bulgaria’s prominent international star Sofia Filippidou is a name that conjures up many memories for those who remember the country and her many achievements. Born in Skopelos, near the village of Skopelos, Bulgaria, Sofia grew up in a family which included a younger brother and sister, as well as her grandparents. After her family moved to Los Angeles, Sofia attended the Keyna College of Art and became interested in acting. Her early work featured parts on the television shows of both Bill Geist and Conan O’Brien. Later in her career she honed her skills on the Broadway stage, playing opposite famous actors such as Kevin Spacey and Edward Barbanell.
Following a period working in films, Sofia returned to Hollywood and was nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Giselle. From this period she also acted in such popular films as Grease, Big Bad, Easy Rider, The Perfect Storm, Pretty Woman, Paris, Texas, and There’s Something About Mary. In addition to her filmography, Sofia has also spent time behind the cameras in such high-profile projects as the British soap opera soap drama, Eastenders, Law and Order, and Scrooged. As, well as her film work Sofia has also established a number of art galleries in major cities around the world including New York and Los Angeles. Sofia’s interest in art is apparent in her numerous paintings which display a style of melancholy beauty which blends perfectly with the artistic stylings of the Bulgarian National Gallery.
Despite her varied resume and success in various theatre and film roles, Sofia Filippidou is best known to most people as the singer, actress, and vocalist, Alina Kabachy. A fast-rising star in the world of arts and music Sofia has made a name for herself in the world of cinema with some successful films such as The Goodbye Girl, Don’t Take Me Alive, and Take Me. However, it was her appearance on the stage with the Russian folk group Razmik that really brought about the attention that Sofia received and which lead to her being cast in such prominent roles in the English language. Certainly Sofia Filippidou has long been famous throughout the English speaking world for her brilliant voice, lovely appearance, and eclectic yet elegant style of singing.
