A Review of the Lost Sock Roasters – A Roaster’s Journey

Lost Sock Roasters is a small, independently owned, microbrewery based in Brooklyn, NY that produces artisans, specialty ales with their own specially blended blend of locally grown ingredients. The Lost Sock Brewing Company blends locally grown organic ingredients, such as sugar cane, organic wheat, maple syrup, and organic dried fruit, with a traditional, commercial yeast strain for brewing a unique, specialty beer. Because of our commitment to quality and consistency, we make all of our ales with a pharmaceutical-grade yeast extract.

The co-owner’s wife, Liz Landreth decided that she needed a way to preserve her special coffee blend, so one day, she brought home a bag of coffee roasted loose form New York City (using the best beans they could get their hands on, mind you) and started creating batches of coffee that would go into Lost Sock Roasters. Eventually they got to a point where they had to decide whether or not they wanted to open a co-operative so they could start selling their delicious, hand-crafted brews. It was at this point that they decided to use the “Kona” brand of Kona coffee from Hawaii. Once they decided on the blend and decided on co-branding, they started selling their coffee wholesale to specialty coffee shops, gift shops, and bars in Brooklyn, NY, as well as across the country. They were quickly becoming known for their coffee blends, delicious, unique blends that customers came back for over.

Today, lost sock roasters have four locations: one located inside the Brooklyn area’s Prospect Park Village at Battery Park, another at Prospect Point in Astoria, a third at the Cortisol Shopping Center at Cortisol Mall in Fort Greene, and a fourth at the Tully’s restaurant in Fort Greene. Also located in Brooklyn is the Stone Street Coffee Roasters at Court Square, the Union Craft Coffee Roasters at Court Square, and the Eat Yourself Coffee House at Eastchester Square. In addition to these storefronts, they also have a small roasting facility located at their warehouse in Flatbush, New York City, which they share with fellow specialty coffee company called Blue Bottle. As you can see, the lost sock coffee roasters have spread across the city and have become quite a hit!
