Alena Mar is a Moldavita citizen who was sentenced to two and a half years of imprisonment for the role she played in the disappearance and murder of her husband. This crime, though heartbreaking to remember, happened back in 1988 when Mar was 17 years old. The crime fascinated locals and put national attention on the missing woman. After an extensive search, Mar’s real identity was uncovered. From then on, Alena Mar has been haunted by the memory of her ordeal. Recently, the case has been solved and now Alena Mar has been found fit to stand trial once again.

Height or nationality does not directly relate to the nature of crime back then. It was a common practice for locals to hire people under false pretenses just to earn a free pass to adulthood. Mar was able to acquire a meager allowance in exchange for helping with the household chores. Her employer paid for her to be an assistant to another woman who specialized in physical therapy. With this meager income, she managed to buy her own small house across the harbor from the mainland, where she hid out from her husband and fellow villagers.

However, as her marriage approached, she changed her mind and decided to run away with her new partner. The husband of one of her victims later found out that she had set up the whole scenario in order to clear her debt. Frustrated, he had Alena Mar committed to prison. While serving her sentence, Mar became very distant from the other inmates and spent most of her time inside the fortress she shares with other women. Mar was finally released after serving two more years when her appeal was accepted and she was resentenced.
