Kate Hindley is a British national who has appeared in quite a few English speaking films. She is often cast as the archetypal love interest for either a male or female character, often with the same type of face and hair. The one similarity between Kate and most other age defying love interests that we see in movies is that they all have a profession, be it a teacher, lawyer, soldier or merchant. In almost all the movies Kate’s occupation is not specified, and while this does make it seem like she goes to work in some institution on the outskirts of town, the truth is that she never leaves her house! While there are some exceptions such as when she shops in the local supermarket, Kate spends her days either inside or outside working on a farm or out in the country.
Kate is the perfect example of modern day internationals marrying people from other nationalities and adopting an entirely different identity for their marriage. In our own times, marrying someone from a different country and choosing to live together can sometimes be difficult and it is not uncommon to see couples like Kate and David, with their accents and two very different nationalities, but a deep love for each other, who happen to live in the same area and have chosen to marry. This can be rather complicated as different nationalities bring their own expectations and values to their marriage. For Kate and her partner David, living in Bournemouth and choosing to marry in London, England gave them the freedom to make their own decisions about the future of their marriage, including which career path they should both pursue, and whether or not Kate should get a degree and study a second profession so that David could climb the corporate ladder. As Kate discovered, the options are wide open for those with absolutely no experience of life outside of America.
