Known worldwide as an award-winning tattoo artist, Casey Kawaguchi is well known in the alternative community for her politically incorrect but empowering pieces. Her work deals with topics such as race, body image, social issues, and sexuality. Her colorful, cartoon-style tattoos are a testament to her ability to draw attention and creativity to those who view them. The artist also has created pieces that address topics that deal with religion, heritage, immigration, and even the history of nationality.
In her tattoo “Body Image” series, she draws from Japanese and Chinese elements that represent human anatomy and the spiritual and emotional elements that go along with it. She uses the colors red, green, yellow, orange, and blue in order to bring forth the various elements of nature. This work has led her to be called a nature artist due to the vibrancy that nature has brought forth from her works in both her solo and group studies. Kawaguchi’s “atform” series also draws from the elements of platforms and rooftops to create unique yet meaningful imagery. The artist has made public appearances at art galleries, schools, and public events to share her works.
Like many tattoo artists, Kawaguchi is still making the big moves into the world of print and digital media. She is still creating her own stencils and doing her handiwork. She continues to hone her skills and continue to explore the possibilities in using ink to express herself. Her goal is still the same, “I want my work to be seen.” Her bold statements and her provocative designs still draw attention and continue to showcase her talents. No matter where her work ultimately ends up it will continue to promote her individuality as an artist.
