Born in Dominican Republic, Adriana Yanca is the daughter of Yulma Yanca. She was named after her real father who died when she was young and her step-sisters were taken away to be sold into slavery. Adriana grew up as a single parent in Spain and after she reached the age of 18 got married. Her marriage was typical for that time: she was a domestic help for her uncle who worked in a factory, but they always had time to talk in Spanish together and promised to look after each other. It was in this marriage that she became familiar with her national identity. After the war, when her uncle was working in the United States, she took a trip to Punta Cana with her cousin and sister and learned that her biological parents were Hispanic and that she was, indeed, a member of the Dominican nationality.
Adriana has used her natural skills and her Dominican nationality to become a popular dancer in various dance competitions all over the world. She has been nominated twice for best dancer in the World Championships of Dances and Dancing and was second once. Apart from dancing, Adriana Yanca is an accomplished writer having pen roles in many different books. She has also produced a number of screenplays and served as a script writer and director for movies. Most of her acting work was done in animated films and she appeared in some independent films.
In the end, it’s not about nationality, race or colour that makes one beautiful. It’s about loving what you do. And if Adriana Yanca was born with a silver spoon in her mouth as a Dominican, she can rest assured that her talents and abilities have paid off in spades. Her status as a dual national helps her to enjoy more in life than what others who are not like her could ever dream of.
