Adriana Diaz works at a prestigious broadcasting school but has chosen to pursue a career in sports journalism. Her first job was covering the Spanish National soccer team for ESPN. She covered all three of Spain’s games at the FIFA World Cup and was also credentialed as the sport’s expert commentator.
While in high school, Diaz became a tennis star, competing alongside her older sister, Josefina. After losing to eventual U.S. champion Martina Hinkle in the second round of the tournament, Adriana went on to play her college tennis in Oklahoma. Although she lost the first set, she won the second. This would help put her on the map for a career in sports reporting in the U.S.
In sports, the game of tennis seems to be one in which Adriana’s natural athleticism has translated perfectly. She has covered many tennis matches both in the United States and in her native Spain, and has used her knowledge of the sport to talk about tennis in depth. She has described the action on the court as “beautiful”, adding, “The crowd and competition are like animals.” Now, as a sportscaster with a worldwide following, she hopes to continue to use her athleticism to make tennis more accessible to people outside of the U.S. and to develop coverage that will allow fans from all nations to enjoy the sport.
