Currently working from home in Italy, Alice Piaggio is a freelance illustrator who draws from a deep understanding of art, history, and psychology. As an illustrator, she has created art for commercial clients, cartoons, children’s books, calendars, figurines, and collages. Her work can be seen in Italy alone or in publications around the globe. She has won the Golden Globe award twice and the Prix Gemini award once.
Born in Genova, Italy, Alice Piaggio graduated from the Institute of Printing Technology of Urbino in Urbino, Italy. After completing her studies, she worked with printing companies in Milan and ITT in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and eventually, became a freelance illustrator based in Venice, Italy. She joined Palermo Lampoon in 1976 as a writer and later on became a cartoonist and designer. In 1992, she decided to venture into the world of illustration, and found her way through the ranks of Nuevoire, a publishing company founded by Mario Costanelli. Alice Piaggio co-founded the magazine PELO, the Italian equivalent of Modern Art, in September 1992.
Although Alice Piaggio has been exposed to many different elements of the art world, her true calling came when she decided to take a step away from the commercial world and create an image-filled, expressionist style of art that would highlight her connection with the local people in her small village, Veneto. And perhaps this is what has defined her career throughout the years. Artists such as Florence Donatella, Pollock, Rubens, Braque & Grisso, and Piaggio have all contributed their own mark on the world of art, and hopefully more will come from the mind of Alice Piaggio in the years to come.
