Alice is the younger daughter of Jasper and Rosalie Hale, and the adopted daughter of Jasper and Bella Cullen. As a normal human, Bella had a natural resistance to the powers of vampires, which started manifesting when her transformation into a werewolf. After she became a werewolf, her natural resistance to their powers decreased because of her constant exposure to them throughout her life. However, after her death, her abilities restored when she was reborn as an adult.
Alice was born with a natural mental shield around her mind, preventing her from receiving information concerning her past life, or psychic powers in general. While on a mission to save her sister, Alice made a deal with a vampire to get rid of her, but instead of doing so, he locked her in a cabin, intending to feed on her body once she died. With the help of a huntsman (mentioned in the movie), Alice is able to break out of the cabin and kill the vampire who locked her in, however, before she can do anything, a clockwork doll appears and teleports Alice back to the present, where her future self informs her that vampires are dangerous and should be prevented at all costs. With this information, Alice quickly makes preparations to prevent any more vampires from appearing in her life.
However, a couple of years later, when Alice finds herself in a hotel on the coast, she’s gone to a world in which she lives with a young vampire who can read her thoughts, called a ‘parrot’. The two form a strange friendship, and Alice slowly starts to realise that while she doesn’t have any mental powers like her incarnations, being a young woman with no memory may cause problems for her throughout her life… Will these problems get worse if Alice becomes too close to this parrot? You’ll find out in the second book!
