It has been an interesting thing to read through the many articles concerning Abigail Fleishour, founder of The National Academy of Fashion Industry, and her recent brush with the law. It appears that she was in an auto accident on New York City’s busy streets while shopping recently, when a motorist cut off her car in front of her, and fled the scene, though police were called as the woman was taken to a nearby hospital, and later died. Fleishour, being of French Nationality, was the target of the attack, as her nationality is widely regarded as dangerous to drivers in this country, though other countries also have such a reputation.
It would seem that the problem lies in that people feel that if you are of a certain nationality, it automatically discounts you as a criminal, due to the language, culture, and sometimes just the nature of the accent. This can certainly be a very hurtful thing to those who do not belong to these nationalities and can cause some to be discriminated against for years to come. However, the press’ reports, as well as the story from The New York Times correctly point out that Fleishour was in fact doing nothing wrong by her actions, and was simply in the wrong place at the time. She was in a position that could not allow her to protect herself and did nothing to prevent being targeted. That should be reason enough to stop patronizing businesses that employ illegal aliens, but even so, I am not sure that stopping all legal alien employment is a wise decision, as some of these businesses may genuinely have a good work ethic, and truly benefit our nation in ways we cannot see yet.
It does appear, nonetheless, that those who attack Abigail Fleishour do not really know what they’re talking about. Her crime was simply in the shoplifting of an accent necklace that clearly did not belong to her, as she was at the store at the time. The media attacks, as well as the restaurant owner’s reaction, are a little too over the top. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
